President Droupadi Murmu awarded the Shaurya Chakra to Lieutenant Commanders Dilna K and Roopa A at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

The recognition highlights the bravery of women in the Indian Navy and marks a significant milestone in maritime endurance and seamanship. The awards acknowledge the physical and mental fortitude required to complete high-risk sailing missions.

Dilna K and Roopa A received the honors for their exceptional courage and endurance during the Navika Sagar Parikrama II expedition. This sailing mission required outstanding performance under challenging conditions to ensure the success of the voyage.

The ceremony was part of a larger event where the president honored a total of 51 gallantry awardees [1]. Among these honors, seven individuals were awarded the Kirti Chakra [2], while 15 others received the Vir Chakra [3].

The Shaurya Chakra is awarded for gallantry, wherever the action is in disregard of the own safety and while performing duties of a courageous nature. The recognition of these two officers underscores the evolving role of female personnel in operational and expeditionary naval duties.

President Murmu presented the medals during the ceremony, which recognized service members across different branches of the armed forces for their bravery and dedication to duty.
