Telltale Games CEO Kevin Bruner said the development of The Wolf Among Us 2 is now progressing on schedule after a prolonged production period.
The project is a critical return for the studio following a troubled journey that saw the team walk away from years of previous work. Because the game is one of the company's most anticipated titles, its stability is essential for the studio's current trajectory.
Development delays were primarily caused by a decision to switch the game's foundation to Unreal Engine 5. This transition required significant changes to the technical pipeline, but the engine change has since allowed the project to move forward.
Early previews of the game have been positive. An editor at IGN said the shift in technology was a rescue for the resurrection of one of the studio's best adventures.
Bruner addressed the anticipation surrounding the release and the possibility of an episodic format. He said the demand for the title is high, stating, "People can’t wait."
The transition to Unreal Engine 5 was a pivotal moment for the sequel. While the switch extended the development timeline, it provided the technical framework necessary to meet the visual and mechanical goals of the project.
“People can’t wait.”
The shift to Unreal Engine 5 represents a strategic gamble by Telltale Games to prioritize modern graphical fidelity over a faster release. By abandoning years of earlier work to restart on a newer engine, the studio has risked further delays to avoid releasing a technically outdated product. The current stability of the project suggests the transition is complete, positioning the game as a litmus test for the studio's ability to deliver a high-fidelity narrative experience.
