French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced 12 million euros [1] in emergency aid Monday to support reconstruction after devastating July wildfires.

The funding arrives as local governments struggle to recover from a disaster that ravaged approximately 42,000 hectares [4] of land. The scale of the destruction has created an urgent need for economic stimulus and housing recovery in southwestern France.

Of the total package, 10 million euros [2] is allocated to the Gironde region, while two million euros [3] is designated for the Landes region. Lecornu visited the affected areas, including the city of Mérignac and the Porge sector in Gironde, to outline the government's response.

Beyond direct financial assistance, the Prime Minister introduced measures to streamline the rebuilding process. These include fiscal adjustments, and the facilitation of building permits to help residents and businesses return to their properties more quickly.

Lecornu said the funds are "available immediately" [5] to ensure that local authorities can begin the recovery process without administrative delay.

The July mega-fires represented one of the most significant environmental challenges for the region this year. The government's plan focuses on both immediate financial relief and the long-term structural recovery of the devastated landscapes.

"available immediately"

The French government's rapid deployment of funds and the easing of construction permits indicate a priority on preventing long-term economic stagnation in the Gironde and Landes regions. By bypassing typical bureaucratic hurdles for building permits, the state is attempting to accelerate the physical reconstruction of infrastructure destroyed by the July mega-fires.
