The India Meteorological Department had previously forecast moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms [3]. Water accumulated rapidly on roads and in low-lying areas, making travel difficult for those navigating the city [1, 2].
Impacts were particularly severe in downtown Guwahati, as well as the Rukminigaon and Beltola localities [4, 1]. Residents in these low-lying areas faced significant trouble as water entered streets, and residential zones [1].
City officials worked to clear the submerged areas the day after the primary downpour. To remove the standing water, authorities deployed 27 pumps across the city [2]. Despite these efforts, some areas remained under water for a period following the event [2].
Weather alerts remained a concern for the region during this period. The India Meteorological Department said heavy rain could continue for a period of three to four days [3]. This extended forecast increased the risk of further waterlogging and potential landslides in the surrounding areas [3].
