Indian real-estate and investment firm RMZ Group is leading a $35 billion [1] capital-expenditure program to expand data-center capacity across India.
This investment surge aims to position India as a primary data-center hub in Asia by scaling infrastructure to support the rapid growth of artificial intelligence services.
The program intends to add between two and three gigawatts of capacity over the next five years [1]. This expansion is driven by soaring demand for AI-driven services, which require massive computing power and specialized storage facilities.
While some industry observers cite a $35 billion [1] investment window, other estimates suggest the AI-related data-center boom could add $48 billion [2] in market value. This discrepancy highlights the volatile and rapidly scaling nature of the infrastructure race in the region.
Global technology firms are also committing significant capital to the Indian market. Google has planned a $15 billion [3] investment in data-center infrastructure, with some reports indicating this may be concentrated on a single site [3].
Institutional investors are following this trend. CPP Investments recently committed ₹70 billion, approximately $741 million [4], to CtrlS, another major player in the Indian data-center sector.
RMZ Group, which centers its operations in Bengaluru, is coordinating this push alongside other industry observers to ensure the country can handle the energy and water requirements associated with high-density AI computing [1], [5].
