Marco Willians Herbas Camacho, the leader of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), denied any relationship with influencer Deolane Bezerra on Wednesday [1].
The denial comes as Brazilian authorities conduct Operação Vérnix, an investigation into a suspected money-laundering scheme. The case is significant because it attempts to link one of the country's most powerful organized crime figures with a high-profile public personality.
Marcola made the statements from a federal maximum-security prison where he has been incarcerated since 2019 [3]. Through his defense, the gang leader expressed shock regarding the allegations involving Bezerra, a lawyer who maintains a following of over 21 million people on social media [5].
"I am surprised and indignant with the operation; I do not know Deolane Bezerra," Marcola said [1].
The investigation seeks to determine if financial assets were moved through Bezerra to benefit the PCC leadership. However, Marcola's legal team maintains that there is no evidence of a connection between the two parties. The leader said that he does not recognize any link with the influencer [2].
"Surprise and indignation," Marcola said in a separate statement regarding the police action [3].
Operação Vérnix continues to examine financial records and communication logs to verify the claims of money laundering. While Marcola remains in federal custody, the investigation focuses on how the PCC manages its illicit wealth through external intermediaries, including professionals with significant public reach.
“"I am surprised and indignant with the operation; I do not know Deolane Bezerra."”
This denial is a strategic legal move to decouple the PCC's operational leadership from the public-facing side of the alleged money-laundering network. By distancing himself from Bezerra, Marcola aims to disrupt the prosecution's narrative that the gang utilizes high-profile influencers to sanitize illicit funds. The outcome of Operação Vérnix will likely depend on whether investigators can produce forensic financial evidence that contradicts these denials.
