Iranian President Masoud Bazhakiān said Iran is ready to reassure the world that it does not seek to acquire nuclear weapons [1].
This statement comes as Iran faces ongoing international scrutiny regarding its nuclear program and its influence on regional stability. By publicly denying the pursuit of nuclear arms, Bazhakiān is attempting to lower geopolitical tensions and counter accusations of aggression.
Bazhakiān made the remarks May 24, 2026 [1], while inspecting the Iranian Radio and Television Organization in Tehran [1]. During the visit, he addressed the international community and the nature of Iran's strategic goals.
"We have previously announced, as we announce today, that we are ready to reassure the world that we do not seek to possess nuclear weapons, nor do we seek to cause disturbances in the region," Bazhakiān said [1].
He said that the responsibility for regional instability does not lie with Tehran. He said that the "Zionist entity" is the party actually seeking to destabilize the region [1].
Bazhakiān said that the Iranian government remains open to providing these assurances to the global community [2]. He said that the country is prepared to prove its intentions regarding its nuclear capabilities [2].
Despite these public assurances, the president noted that domestic policy and strategic decisions remain centralized. Bazhakiān said that no decision would be taken without the coordination and permission of the leader of the revolution [3].
“"We are ready to reassure the world that we do not seek to possess nuclear weapons,"”
President Bazhakiān's rhetoric suggests a diplomatic effort to present Iran as a stabilizing force in the Middle East. However, the explicit mention that all major decisions require the approval of the Supreme Leader indicates that the ultimate authority over the nuclear program remains with the clerical establishment, regardless of the president's diplomatic outreach.
