LandSpace successfully recovered the first stage of its Zhuque-3 orbital-class rocket on land on Wednesday, Aug. 18 [1].
The achievement marks the first time a private Chinese company has landed an orbital-class booster [2]. This development signals a shift in the global space race, as China seeks to reduce the cost of reaching orbit through reusability.
The landing occurred at a land-based pad in Inner Mongolia [1]. LandSpace said in a press release that the company recovered the first stage of the Zhuque-3 [3] using deployable landing legs [3].
"This is a historic milestone for China's commercial space sector," said Zhang Xuewu, CEO of LandSpace [1].
