Senior BJP leader Narottam Mishra pledged to campaign for the party's official candidate in the Datia assembly by-poll after being denied a ticket [1, 2].
Mishra's public commitment serves to stabilize the party's image in the region. By openly supporting the official candidate, he aims to neutralize reports of internal friction within the BJP ranks following the ticket snub [1, 2].
Speaking at a nomination rally for candidate Ashutosh Tiwari, Mishra became emotional while addressing the crowd [1, 2]. He said that he would personally commit to the ground effort to ensure a win for the party. Mishra said, "I will camp in Datia from the 16th and visit every village and every household" [1, 3].
According to the leader, he will begin this camping effort on July 16, 2024 [1]. His strategy involves working closely with local party workers to reach voters across the district. This intensive outreach is designed to maintain party discipline, and mobilize the base for Tiwari [2].
Mishra also highlighted the security evolution of the region during his speech. He said, "Datia was once plagued by dacoit gangs, but now it is free of them" [3].
Addressing the speculation regarding his relationship with party leadership, Mishra denied any rift. He said, "There is no discord in the party; we are united and will work together for victory" [3].
“"I will camp in Datia from the 16th and visit every village and every household,"”
Mishra's decision to campaign for a rival within his own party is a strategic move to prevent 'vote-splitting' or rebellion. In Indian by-polls, the public defection of a senior leader can lead to significant losses; therefore, his emotional display and pledge of loyalty are intended to signal to the cadre that the party hierarchy remains intact despite internal disagreements over nominations.
