Nibe Limited demonstrated the Garudastra 120mm [1] vehicle-mounted mortar system in a live exhibition of its firepower and precision capabilities.
The demonstration highlights India's push toward indigenous defense production. By integrating guided munitions into a mobile platform, the system aims to reduce casualty risks for operators while increasing strike accuracy on the battlefield.
The Garudastra system is designed for rapid deployment and high mobility. A primary feature of the platform is its shoot-and-scoot capability, which allows the vehicle to fire rounds and relocate quickly to avoid counter-battery fire from enemy forces.
During the live demonstration, the system utilized precision-guided munitions. The showcase featured multiple rounds impacting their targets simultaneously, a tactic used to overwhelm enemy defenses and maximize damage in a single strike.
Nibe Limited developed the system to align with the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. These government programs seek to reduce reliance on foreign military imports by fostering a domestic defense industrial base.
The 120mm [1] caliber provides a significant increase in firepower compared to lighter man-portable mortars. Because the system is vehicle-mounted, it can transport heavier ammunition loads and maintain a higher rate of fire over longer distances than traditional towed artillery.
Representatives from Nibe Limited oversaw the demonstration to verify the system's readiness for modern combat environments. The integration of guided technology ensures that the mortar can engage targets with higher precision than unguided ballistic rounds.
“The Garudastra system is designed for rapid deployment and high mobility.”
The development of the Garudastra system represents a shift toward digitized, mobile artillery in the Indian defense sector. By combining the high volume of fire typical of mortars with the precision of guided munitions and the survivability of a vehicle-mounted platform, Nibe Limited is addressing the need for flexible assets that can operate in contested environments where static positions are easily detected.
