Actor Tom Holland said his role as Telemachus in Christopher Nolan’s film *The Odyssey* taught him more than any other movie [1].
The performance marks a pivotal transition for the actor as he moves away from adolescent roles into a new stage of his professional life. Because Holland is 30 [4], the role represents a closing window for him to portray younger characters.
During an interview at the Channel 4 News studio in London with journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Holland reflected on the technical and emotional demands of the production [1]. He said the project provided a unique educational experience that surpassed his previous work in the industry.
"I've learnt more on *The Odyssey* than any other film," Holland said [1].
Beyond the skill development, the actor viewed the casting as a temporal milestone. He said the production served as a bridge between his early career and his future projects. The role of Telemachus allowed him to explore a specific youthfulness one last time before transitioning to more mature roles.
"The Odyssey gave me one final chance to play a boy before a major new chapter," Holland said [2].
He said the casting choice was final. He said, "It's the last chance I get to play a boy" [3].
The film, directed by Christopher Nolan, adapts the epic Greek narrative. Holland's portrayal of Telemachus focuses on the son of Odysseus and his journey toward maturity, mirroring the actor's own transition in the public eye.
“"I've learnt more on *The Odyssey* than any other film."”
Holland's comments signal a deliberate shift in his career branding. By explicitly stating that this is his last role as a 'boy,' he is preparing audiences and casting directors for a transition toward adult-centric lead roles, moving beyond the youthful image established in his early blockbuster success.
