Adani Defence is constructing a missile and propellant manufacturing facility in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, to create a private defense ecosystem [1, 2].
The project marks a significant expansion of private sector involvement in India's strategic weaponry production. By establishing a localized hub for missile components, the initiative aims to reduce dependence on foreign imports and accelerate the delivery of defense hardware to the Indian military.
Adani Defence, a unit of the Adani Group, will invest ₹2,500 crore [1] into the facility. The company plans to deploy this investment over three years [1]. The project is designed as an integrated Defence and Aerospace Missile and Propellant Manufacturing Facility [1, 2].
Officials said the site will become the largest private missile ecosystem in South Asia [2]. The facility is intended to support the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, which seek to strengthen national defense self-reliance [1, 2].
Beyond the industrial output, the project is expected to have a local economic impact. The construction and operation of the hub are projected to create 5,000 direct and indirect skilled jobs [2]. This workforce will support the specialized technical requirements of missile and propellant production in the Shivpuri region.
The facility will focus on the integrated manufacturing of missiles and the propellants required to launch them. This vertical integration allows for greater control over the supply chain, a critical factor in the production of high-precision aerospace technology.
“South Asia's largest private missile ecosystem”
This investment signals a shift in India's defense procurement strategy, moving from state-led production toward a hybrid model where private conglomerates manage critical strategic infrastructure. By focusing on propellants and integrated systems, Adani Defence is positioning itself to fill a specific gap in the domestic supply chain, aligning with the government's goal of achieving strategic autonomy in missile technology.
