CJP Leader Denies AAP Proxy Claims, Announces National Tour

Ashutosh Ranka, co-convener of the Citizens' Judicial Panel, rejected accusations that his organization is acting as a proxy for the Aam Aadmi Party.

The denial comes as the CJP seeks to establish its identity as an independent entity. By distancing itself from established political parties, the group aims to maintain its status as a public pressure group capable of pushing for systemic reforms without being tied to a specific electoral platform.

During a national working committee meeting in Delhi, Ranka said the organization will focus on building a reform agenda led by the youth. As part of this strategy, the CJP is launching a listening tour titled "Kya Bolti Public," which is scheduled to last six months ^[1]. The tour is set to begin Sept. 1, 2026 ^[2].

The announcement follows a period of heightened tension for the group in the capital. Recent protests involving the CJP led to the detention of 70 people ^[3]. These demonstrations included a march toward Parliament and events at Jantar Mantar that were cleared by police using tear gas and lathicharges.

Ranka has previously characterized certain high-level political engagements as unproductive. He said that a meeting with J.P. Nadda was a waste of time ^[4]. Despite these frictions with government officials, the CJP intends to use its upcoming tour to gather direct public input, and strengthen its grassroots presence.

The group's transition toward a structured listening tour suggests a shift in tactics from street protests to organized public engagement. Ranka said the CJP will remain a pressure group rather than transitioning into a formal political party.
