Ecuador's National Electoral Council (CNE) expects to issue the final resolution for the presidential first-round results within the coming days.
The timing of the final count is critical for the country's political stability as it determines the candidates who will advance to the runoff election. Any delays in official certification can lead to public uncertainty or challenges to the legitimacy of the vote.
Cristian Quiroz, president of the CNE, said the council is working toward the final publication of results. The process of the vote count began at Corferias in Bogotá, Colombia.
According to reports, the national vote count exceeded 98% [1] as of 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, 2023. The CNE said that the number of formal complaints registered during the scrutiny process has remained low.
Officials are now focusing on resolving these few remaining claims to ensure the legal integrity of the process. The resolution will formally close the first-round cycle, marking the transition to the final stage of the presidential contest.
Quiroz said the council remains committed to transparency throughout the final tally. The use of an external site for the start of the scrutiny was intended to facilitate the logistical demands of the count.
“The national vote count exceeded 98% [1] as of 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, 2023.”
The high percentage of counted votes and the low volume of complaints suggest a smooth transition toward the presidential runoff. By finalizing the results quickly, the CNE aims to prevent political volatility and provide a clear legal mandate for the candidates moving forward in the electoral process.
