Chinese automaker GAC Group is launching the Aion UT electric hatchback in Brazil with two different trim levels [1, 2].

The move marks a strategic effort by GAC to establish a significant foothold in the Brazilian automotive sector by introducing its first major electric vehicle offering in the country [1, 2].

The company is offering the Aion UT in two versions. The Premium version is priced at R$ 135,900 [1], while the higher-end Elite version is priced at R$ 159,990 [1]. These prices are part of a promotional window that remains valid until mid-June 2024 [1].

This Brazilian launch follows the vehicle's availability in its home market. In China, an entry-level version of the Aion UT was offered at R$ 50,000 [2].

The expansion comes amid a period of rapid growth for the manufacturer. A GAC spokesperson said, "Nos últimos anos a GAC cresceu de forma astronômica. Somos a sexta maior montadora chinesa e temos uma expectativa alta" [3].

To illustrate this scale, the company reported a total production forecast of 1.9 million units for 2024 [3]. Of that total, new-energy vehicles represented 455,000 units [3].

The company expects the official launch to occur in the coming weeks following the announcement made in early June 2024 [1, 2].

The Premium version is priced at R$ 135,900

GAC Group's entry into Brazil with the Aion UT reflects a broader trend of Chinese automakers targeting Latin American markets to offset domestic competition and global shifts toward electrification. By offering multiple price points, GAC is attempting to capture both the entry-level and mid-tier electric vehicle segments in a region where infrastructure for EVs is still developing.
