Iñaky Blanco, the former Attorney General of Justice for Guerrero, described a recommendation from the National Human Rights Commission as a "historical lie."
Blanco's criticism targets the CNDH's handling of a specific case, suggesting the commission failed to protect the rights of the parties involved. The dispute highlights the ongoing tension between state legal authorities and federal human rights monitors in Mexico.
During an interview transmitted by Milenio Televisión, Blanco said the recommendation distorts the reality of the case. He argued that the commission's findings do not accurately reflect the facts of the matter, an assertion that challenges the official narrative established by the federal body.
The specific document under scrutiny is Recommendation 42/2024 [1]. This recommendation was published on Feb. 29, 2024 [2]. Blanco's rejection of the findings suggests a fundamental disagreement over the legal and factual basis used by the CNDH to issue its guidance.
Blanco said the CNDH recommendation is a "mentira histórica" [3]. By labeling the document as such, the former prosecutor is questioning the integrity of the human rights body's investigative process. He said that the current version of the case presented by the commission does not provide adequate protection for the rights at stake.
The former prosecutor's public pushback occurs as the CNDH continues to monitor human rights compliance across various Mexican states. The disagreement centers on whether the commission's findings are based on verified evidence or a skewed interpretation of the legal proceedings in Guerrero.
“"La recomendación de la CNDH es una 'mentira histórica'."”
This conflict underscores the fragile relationship between Mexico's state-level judicial officers and the CNDH. When a former top prosecutor publicly dismisses a federal human rights recommendation as a fabrication, it suggests a lack of institutional consensus on the facts of the case, potentially complicating the legal resolution and the restoration of rights for the victims involved.
