Doctors and the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) are demanding an end to delays in NEET Super Specialty (NEET-SS) counselling [1].
The delay halts admissions to super-specialty medical courses and leaves thousands of medical aspirants across India in a state of uncertainty [2, 3].
According to FAIMA, the counselling process is currently in a state of absolute paralysis [1]. The results for the examinations were announced in January [1]. While the counselling session was slated to commence on April 10, 2026 [1], the process has not proceeded as scheduled.
Reports indicate that some rounds of the counselling process, including Round-2 choice filling for the 2025 cycle, have been postponed until further orders [4]. This discrepancy in scheduling has created confusion among candidates regarding the current status of the admissions cycle.
FAIMA has urged the Health Ministry to resolve these delays to ensure that aspiring specialists can enter their chosen fields without further disruption [1]. The organization said the lack of a clear schedule prevents doctors from planning their professional advancement, and impacts the availability of super-specialists in the national healthcare system [2, 3].
Medical aspirants have called for a transparent and immediate timeline from the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) to end the current deadlock [2, 4].
“the counselling process is in a state of absolute paralysis”
The postponement of NEET-SS counselling creates a bottleneck in India's medical pipeline. By delaying the transition of general specialists into super-specialty roles, the government risks a temporary shortfall in highly specialized medical care and increases the professional anxiety of the country's medical workforce.
