NDA leaders have filed a complaint alleging mass irregularities in the Karnataka State Electoral Roll Revision process [1].
These allegations suggest a systematic attempt to manipulate voter lists, which could impact the legitimacy of future elections if the process is found to be compromised.
Leaders from the National Democratic Alliance, specifically those from the Janata Dal(S), claim that officials are facilitating illegal inclusions of names in the electoral roll [1]. According to the complaint, there has been a widespread disregard for approved processes. Specifically, the NDA alleges that required door-to-door verification was not conducted [1].
"We have received credible information about widespread irregularities in the electoral roll revision process," said a senior JD(S) leader [1].
The opposition contends that the ruling Congress party is behind these flaws. An NDA spokesperson said the Congress government is deliberately trying to manipulate the electoral roll for its benefit [1].
Chief Minister DK Shivakumar responded to the allegations. "We demand a thorough inquiry and strict action against those responsible for these irregularities," said Shivakumar [1].
The complaint was submitted to the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer. The NDA is calling for an immediate review of the revision process to ensure that only eligible voters are registered, and that no illegal entries remain on the rolls [1].
“"The Congress government is deliberately trying to manipulate the electoral roll for its benefit,"”
The dispute over the electoral roll highlights the deep political friction in Karnataka regarding election integrity. If the allegations of bypassed door-to-door verification are proven, it could lead to legal challenges over the validity of the voter lists, potentially delaying election cycles or necessitating a full-scale audit by the Election Commission of India.
