Netflix will release a drama series titled “Operation Safed Sagar” that dramatizes the Indian Air Force’s 1999 air campaign during the Kargil War.

The series aims to bring the largely untold story of the air campaign to a global audience and honor the pilots who served during the conflict. By focusing on the aerial dimension of the war, the production highlights the strategic challenges faced by the IAF in high-altitude terrain.

The show stars actor Siddharth as Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja and features Jimmy Shergill in a lead role. Monika Shergill was also involved in the production of the series. The narrative focuses on the pilots who carried out the missions in the Kargil region of Jammu & Kashmir.

According to the production, the series depicts the extreme conditions of the 1999 conflict. Pilots flew combat missions at altitudes of nearly 18,000 feet [1]. The trailer for the series was unveiled in late July 2024 to coincide with the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, 2026 [3].

Production elements for the project included filming at the Nashik Air Force Station in Maharashtra for accompanying features [2]. The series is designed to bring the bravery of the 1999 war to the screen, following a trend of historical military dramas in Indian cinema.

The series is scheduled to premiere on Aug. 7, 2024 [2].

The series depicts the extreme conditions of the 1999 conflict.

The release of 'Operation Safed Sagar' reflects a growing interest in specialized military history within Indian streaming content. By focusing specifically on the Indian Air Force's role rather than the broader infantry struggle, the series fills a narrative gap in the public's understanding of the 1999 Kargil War's strategic execution.
