The Federal Ministry of Education has inaugurated the second cohort [1] of the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme.
This initiative aims to address youth unemployment by providing practical skills that enable young Nigerians to secure formal employment or start their own businesses. By shifting focus toward vocational competency, the government seeks to bridge the gap between academic education and the actual needs of the labor market.
The program's second cohort [1] is being rolled out through accredited training centers, including the I Choose Life Foundation. This center serves as a hub where participants receive hands-on instruction in various technical trades designed to foster economic independence.
The Federal Ministry of Education said the government has announced plans to commence the rollout of the second cohort [1] to expand the reach of these skills-based certifications. The program targets a demographic of young people who may lack access to traditional university degrees but possess the aptitude for technical work.

The TVET framework focuses on diversifying the Nigerian economy by creating a workforce capable of supporting industrial growth. By utilizing accredited foundations, the government intends to ensure that the training meets national standards for vocational excellence.
Officials said the program is designed to equip participants with the tools necessary for entrepreneurship. This approach is intended to reduce the reliance on government jobs, and encourage the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises across the country.

The expansion of the TVET program signals a strategic shift by the Nigerian government toward a skills-based economy. By prioritizing vocational training over traditional academic paths for a segment of the youth population, the state is attempting to lower unemployment rates and stimulate local industry through a more technically proficient workforce.
