Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) of spreading false propaganda to damage Hyderabad’s image [1].
The dispute centers on whether political opposition is intentionally hindering urban growth, which could deter future investment and stall the state's overall progress [1, 2].
Sridhar Babu said the BRS is desperate to undermine the city's reputation [1]. He specifically pointed to the obstruction of development projects, including the construction of underpasses around KBR Park [2]. These infrastructure efforts are intended to improve traffic flow and urban accessibility, but the minister said the opposition's tactics are creating unnecessary hurdles [2].
The minister said the Congress government remains committed to the development of Hyderabad [2]. He argued that the BRS is attempting to portray the administration as anti-development to gain political leverage, despite the current government's efforts to modernize the city's layout [1, 2].
According to Sridhar Babu, the public will ultimately suffer if road works around KBR Park are blocked [2]. He said such obstructions do not serve the public interest but instead serve the political goals of the BRS [2].
The tension between the ruling Congress party and the BRS continues to manifest in disagreements over land use, and infrastructure priorities in the capital city [1]. Sridhar Babu said the government will continue to push forward with its development agenda to ensure the city remains a competitive hub for industry and technology [2].
“The BRS is desperate to damage Hyderabad’s image.”
This confrontation highlights the deep political polarization in Telangana, where infrastructure projects are becoming primary battlegrounds for legitimacy. By framing the BRS's opposition as an attack on the city's global image, the current administration is attempting to align urban development with economic patriotism to marginalize political dissent.
