A new documentary on Arte details the life of survivor and activist Steffy Alexandrian and her campaign to strengthen French child-protection laws.

Alexandrian's story highlights systemic failures in the French legal system and the enduring trauma of familial abuse. By sharing her personal history, she seeks to mobilize public support for legislative changes that would better protect minors from predation.

The documentary, titled "Inceste, le combat d’une vie," was made available on Arte on June 15 [2]. It recounts a childhood marked by abuse from her father, who targeted two children [3]. Alexandrian said she denounced the incest when she was 13 [1].

The film also documents the devastating collateral damage of the abuse, including the suicides of her mother and little brother [4]. These losses served as a catalyst for Alexandrian to pursue a career as a jurist specializing in the protection of minors, and to found the association Carl.

Through her activism, Alexandrian promotes the "Loi Yanis," a specific child-protection law intended to close gaps in the current legal framework [5]. She aims to provide a voice for other victims through her association, transforming her personal trauma into a public struggle for justice.
