Former Republican strategist Stuart Stevens said President Donald Trump is losing on every issue in a recent MSNBC interview.

These warnings come as the Republican Party faces a critical window before the 2026 midterm elections. With public concern over the economy rising, strategists fear the current trajectory could lead to significant losses for the GOP.

Speaking with Chris Jansing and Peter Baker, Stevens said the current political climate is creating a precarious situation for the party. He said, "Trump is losing on every issue."

According to a New York Times/Siena poll referenced during the segment, President Trump's approval rating has fallen to 37% [1]. This figure represents a second-term low and reflects growing dissatisfaction among the electorate regarding economic stability.

Stevens said the administration's current approach is not resonating with voters. He said, "We’re digging ourselves into an even deeper hole."

The timing of these shifts is particularly sensitive for the GOP. The U.S. is currently approximately six months away from the midterm elections [2]. This period is typically when parties solidify their messaging to mobilize the base, and attract swing voters.

Stevens said the lack of momentum on key policy issues is a real problem for the Republican Party. He said the combination of low approval and economic anxiety could alienate moderate voters who are essential for maintaining legislative control.

"Trump is losing on every issue."

The decline in President Trump's approval rating to 37% suggests a vulnerability in the GOP's coalition just six months before the midterms. If the party cannot decouple the president's personal approval from the broader legislative agenda, economic dissatisfaction may drive voters toward the opposition, potentially shifting the balance of power in Congress.
