Rizo Velovic returned to the game of Survivor only nine days [1] after his elimination in season 49 to begin season 50 [1, 2].
This rapid turnaround highlights the intense physical and mental demands placed on returning contestants who must transition between filming locations and seasons without significant recovery time.
Velovic finished in fourth place [1] during season 49, which was filmed in Fiji [3]. Shortly after the season 49 finale concluded in late September 2023 [1], producers cast him for season 50, which was filmed in the Philippines [3]. The second season began filming before the season 50 premiere in early January 2024 [1].
"I couldn't believe I was back so soon – just nine days after season 49 ended," Velovic said [2].
The transition was not only mentally taxing but physically demanding. Velovic reported a weight loss of 50 pounds [4] between the two seasons. The sudden shift in environments and the pressure of a second immediate attempt at the title left the contestant feeling disoriented.
"I was very confused," Velovic said [1].
Despite the confusion and the rapid pace, Velovic expressed a willingness to continue competing in the high-stakes environment of the reality series. He noted that the experience felt overwhelming at times, though he remained committed to the game.
"It felt like a curse, but I was ready to play again," Velovic said [2].

The short window between seasons 49 and 50 suggests a production strategy aimed at maintaining contestant momentum or filling cast slots rapidly. However, the reported 50-pound weight loss and the contestant's own confusion indicate that such rapid turnarounds may pose significant health and psychological risks to participants.
