Lawrence O'Donnell said Tuesday that former President Donald Trump cannot halt a federal investigation into an alleged $1.776 billion [1] political slush fund.
The development is significant because it suggests that the legal mechanisms governing the probe are already in motion, potentially limiting the former president's ability to use legal maneuvers to block the inquiry.
Speaking on the MS NOW YouTube channel during the 'Last Word' segment, O'Donnell said that it is too late for Trump to stop the investigation. He characterized the fund as a "political monster" created by the former president that has now evolved beyond his control.
According to O'Donnell, two [2] federal judges have already begun the process of investigating the alleged fund. He said that the judicial oversight currently in place makes it impossible for Trump to kill the probe at this stage.
O'Donnell also criticized the legal strategy employed by the former president. He described Trump's attorneys as "incompetent buffoons" and said their ineffectiveness has left the former president unable to stop the federal proceedings.
Regarding the fate of the financial arrangement, O'Donnell said, "The slush fund is dead and dead forever."
The investigation centers on the alleged $1.776 billion [1] fund, which O'Donnell claims is now subject to unavoidable judicial scrutiny.
“"The slush fund is dead and dead forever"”
This commentary highlights the escalating legal pressure on Donald Trump regarding his campaign and political finances. If two federal judges are indeed actively overseeing a probe into a fund of this magnitude, it signals a transition from preliminary inquiry to active judicial scrutiny, which typically reduces the efficacy of delay tactics used by legal teams.
