Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the corruption case against arrested AAP leader Satyendar Jain will be proven fake.
The arrest of a senior party leader by authorities marks a deepening legal conflict between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and central agencies in India.
Authorities arrested Jain on Tuesday [2] in Delhi. Five other people were also arrested in connection with the case [3]. The arrests follow allegations of corruption involving tender processes, though reports differ on the specific nature of the irregularities. Some reports cite corruption in Delhi Jal Board tenders [1], while others specify irregularities regarding sewage-treatment-plant tenders [3].
Kejriwal said the arrest occurred at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said that the case is politically motivated and linked to upcoming elections [1].
"This case will also be proven fake," Kejriwal said [2].
Jain previously spent 18 months in jail during a separate money-laundering case [1]. The current legal action adds to a series of investigations targeting senior AAP officials.
"Lies will be exposed again," Kejriwal said [1].
The AAP leadership continues to argue that the timing of these arrests is designed to disrupt their political operations, a recurring theme in their defense against various state and federal probes.
“"This case will also be proven fake,"”
The arrest of Satyendar Jain underscores the ongoing friction between the AAP-led Delhi government and the central government. By framing the legal proceedings as political vendettas, Kejriwal is attempting to consolidate party support and signal to voters that the judicial process is being used as a tool for electoral interference.
