India and Bhutan signed a concessional line of credit worth Rs 4,000 crore [1] to support Bhutan's 13th Five-Year Plan.
This financial agreement strengthens the strategic bond between the two nations and ensures the continuity of infrastructure and social development in Bhutan. By targeting specific long-term goals, the partnership aims to stabilize regional growth and deepen cooperation in essential public services.
Government representatives from both countries met to review their ongoing development partnership. During these discussions, officials approved 12 new projects under the Project Tied Assistance (PTA) framework with a combined value of Rs 332 crore [2]. These projects are designed to provide immediate support to various sectors of the Bhutanese economy.
A primary focus of the new agreement is the expansion of health cooperation. The line of credit will facilitate the modernization of medical facilities and the improvement of healthcare delivery systems across Bhutan. This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the 13th Five-Year Plan, a comprehensive roadmap for Bhutan's national development.
The partnership emphasizes a shared commitment to sustainable growth. By providing concessional financing, India reduces the debt burden on Bhutan while ensuring that critical infrastructure projects move forward without significant delays.
Officials said the review process was essential for evaluating the effectiveness of previous investments. The approval of the new PTA projects indicates a shift toward more diversified development goals, ranging from local infrastructure to specialized health services.
