Global liquefied natural gas (LNG) spot prices are rising sharply due to a shortage of transport vessels and supply disruptions in the Middle East.
This price volatility threatens energy security for major importers in Asia and Europe, potentially forcing some nations to revert to more polluting fuels like coal and oil to maintain power grids.
The market is currently struggling with a critical lack of LNG carriers to move product from exporters to buyers. In response to these constraints, Qatar has offered two carriers for lease to help stabilize the movement of gas [1]. This anticipated growth suggests that the current infrastructure gap—specifically the lack of available shipping vessels—could become a recurring bottleneck if fleet expansion does not keep pace with consumption.
Industry analysts said that the combination of geopolitical instability and infrastructure deficits creates a precarious environment for energy pricing.
