San Luis Potosí authorities launched the "Verano Seguro" operation this month to protect travelers and residents throughout the summer vacation period.
The initiative aims to ensure the safety of tourists and citizens during a peak travel window. By increasing visibility and surveillance, the state intends to reduce crime and provide tranquility for those visiting the region's tourist zones.
Under the direction of Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona, the state has deployed more than 1,500 security elements [1]. These forces are tasked with conducting coordinated aerial and ground patrols across the region. The operation focuses on high-traffic highways and primary tourist destinations to prevent incidents and assist travelers.
The security strategy extends across 59 municipalities [2]. To support the personnel on the ground, authorities are utilizing surveillance cameras and continuous monitoring systems. This integrated approach allows the state to track movement and respond to emergencies in real time.
Officials said the operation will remain active until August 2026 [3]. The deployment is designed to cover the entirety of the vacation season, ensuring that security measures remain in place as long as travel volumes remain high.
