Singapore opened Keppel, Cantonment, and Prince Edward Road MRT stations for a free public preview on Saturday, July 4, 2026 [1].

The completion of Circle Line Stage 6 marks the end of a project first conceived more than 30 years ago [1]. By closing the loop, the network aims to reduce travel times and improve connectivity across the city-state.

The preview event is scheduled to run until 9 p.m. today [1]. Regular passenger service for the three new stations will officially begin on July 12, 2024 [2].

Officials expect the expansion to benefit more than 10,000 commuters [3]. These passengers will experience shorter train rides as the line now provides a more direct route through the city's central areas.

"The MRT's Circle Line has come a 'full circle' with the opening of Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward Road stations — and is expected to benefit more than 10,000 commuters, who will enjoy shorter train rides," Jeffrey Siow said [3].

The project represents a multi-decade effort to integrate Singapore's rail infrastructure. The new stations provide critical access to the Keppel and Cantonment districts, areas that previously lacked direct Circle Line connectivity.

The MRT's Circle Line has come a 'full circle'

The closing of the Circle Line loop transforms the network from a partial arc into a fully integrated orbital system. This reduces reliance on central interchange hubs and optimizes transit efficiency for thousands of daily commuters by providing a continuous loop around the city's periphery and core.
