Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Vijay warned his cabinet ministers that any official found involved in corruption will face immediate dismissal [1].
The warning establishes a zero-tolerance policy for the new administration as it seeks to distance itself from previous political graft. By threatening the removal of high-ranking officials, Vijay is attempting to signal a shift toward transparency in the state's governance.
Speaking in Chennai and during a rally in Karur, Vijay said he is committed to a corruption-free government [2]. He said the administration would not tolerate any demands for bribes from the public.
"If someone seeks a bribe, tell them to go away; we will not tolerate any such demand," Vijay said [3].
The Chief Minister also addressed his cabinet directly regarding the consequences of misconduct. "We will not tolerate any graft, and any minister found guilty will be dismissed immediately," Vijay said [2].
During the rally in Karur, the government distributed appointment orders for government jobs to 31 families [4]. The event served as a platform for the Chief Minister to project a government that delivers services without the need for illicit payments.
While the administration pushes an anti-corruption agenda, it is also expanding its political base. Three former ministers from the AIADMK have joined the ruling Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) [5].
Dr. C. Vijayabaskar, one of the former AIADMK ministers who defected, said the move is a commitment to integrity. "Joining TVK is a step towards clean politics and serving the people without any compromise," Vijayabaskar said [6].
This influx of former opposition leaders comes as the TVK attempts to consolidate power in the state. The transition of established political figures into the new party tests whether the administration's anti-graft rhetoric can withstand the practicalities of political coalition-building.
“"We will not tolerate any graft, and any minister found guilty will be dismissed immediately."”
The Chief Minister's aggressive stance against corruption is a strategic attempt to build public trust and legitimacy for the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam. However, the simultaneous absorption of former AIADMK ministers creates a potential tension between the government's 'clean politics' image and the reality of integrating politicians from previous administrations. The success of this policy will depend on whether Vijay follows through with dismissals if corruption is uncovered within his own ranks.
