According to the International Energy Agency and industry analysts, global data center energy consumption is projected to double by 2030 [1]. This trend is mirrored in South America, where Brazil's installed data center capacity could triple by 2029 [3].
São Paulo has emerged as the primary hub for these new projects. The city's existing infrastructure and economic density make it the logical center for the expansion of data processing and storage facilities.
Brazil currently ranks 12th worldwide in the total number of data center structures [2]. The current growth phase is driven by the necessity for faster data processing to support AI-driven applications, which require significant computational power, and specialized hardware.
Adriano Pontes, a partner at Canal Tech, said the demand for speed is bringing more data centers to the country. This movement is expected to attract further foreign investment as tech companies seek to optimize their delivery of services within the Brazilian market.
