Punjabi singer Yashinder Kaur was kidnapped and murdered in Ludhiana after she refused a marriage proposal from a married man.
The crime has drawn attention to the dangers faced by women in the region who reject unwanted advances, particularly involving individuals with international ties.
Kaur, also referred to as Inder Kaur, was kidnapped on May 13, 2026 [2]. Her body was later discovered in Ludhiana, Punjab. Investigations indicate that the motive for the killing was her refusal to marry Sukhwinder Singh.
Singh is 37 years old [1]. He is originally from Moga but currently resides in Canada. Authorities identified him as the alleged perpetrator in the kidnapping and subsequent murder of the singer.
Reports indicate that Singh was already married at the time he proposed to Kaur. The sequence of events led from the rejected proposal to the abduction and death of the artist earlier this month.

This case highlights the intersection of domestic violence and the complexities of pursuing suspects who reside abroad. The involvement of a Canadian resident in a crime committed on Indian soil may necessitate international legal cooperation and extradition processes to ensure the alleged perpetrator faces trial in Punjab.
