Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 [1].

The new digital platform aims to modernize India's border governance by integrating operations at land ports. This shift toward technology-enabled management is intended to reduce delays at trade points and enhance national security [3, 4].

The LPMS will function as a unified digital platform designed to streamline the movement of goods and people. The rollout includes stakeholder facilities at Dawki in Meghalaya, and Srimantapur in Tripura [2, 3]. By digitizing these processes, the government intends to create a more efficient environment for cross-border commerce.

This overhaul comes amid a significant increase in land-based trade. Export-import (EXIM) trade through land ports grew from nearly Rs 5,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 82,800 crore in 2024-25 [5]. The scale of this growth has necessitated a transition from manual or fragmented systems to an integrated digital framework.

The launch ceremony will take place in New Delhi [2]. The initiative focuses on cutting administrative bottlenecks that have historically slowed trade at border points [3]. This integration is expected to provide real-time tracking and better coordination between various agencies operating at the borders.

By implementing the LPMS, India seeks to align its land port operations with global digital standards. The system is designed to strengthen border security while simultaneously facilitating the ease of doing business for traders and logistics providers [4, 5].

The LPMS will function as a unified digital platform designed to streamline the movement of goods and people.

The transition to the Land Port Management System reflects India's strategy to balance economic growth with national security. As land-based trade volume has increased more than 16-fold over a decade, the reliance on legacy systems became a liability. Digitizing these gateways reduces the human error associated with manual processing and provides the government with better data oversight to prevent illegal trafficking while accelerating legitimate commerce.
