The Cockroach Janta Party staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on June 8, 2024, demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The demonstration highlights growing frustration among government-job aspirants regarding the integrity of the nation's competitive examination system. Protesters allege that a lack of transparency, and widespread irregularities in recruitment processes, have compromised fair access to employment.
Led by founder Abhijeet Dipke, the gathering included hundreds of aspirants [3]. The group focused their grievances on the education ministry, calling for stronger accountability and a complete overhaul of how national-level exams are managed. During the event, protesters were heard chanting “Go Pradhan go” [3].
Dipke set a firm timeline for the government's response. He issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Centre [1], stating that the Education Minister must resign by June 13, 2024 [2].
“We won’t leave till Pradhan resigns,” Dipke said.
Dipke warned that the movement would expand if the deadline is not met. He said he will mobilise across India if the Education Minister does not resign by June 13 [2].
While some reports describe the event as the second protest staged by the party at the site, others characterize it as a general gathering of aspirants [3]. Regardless of the sequence, the focus remained on the alleged unfairness of the current examination regime, and the demand for leadership changes within the ministry.
““We won’t leave till Pradhan resigns.””
The protest reflects a volatile intersection of youth unemployment and distrust in state institutions. By targeting a specific cabinet minister with a timed ultimatum, the Cockroach Janta Party is attempting to transform systemic grievances over exam irregularities into a high-profile political liability for the current administration.
