Kumamoto Prefecture has experienced more severe conditions. Forecasts for early August indicated a period of extreme heat beginning with 36 °C on Aug. 1 [2]. This peak marked the first time Kumamoto City recorded a "scorching day" of 40 °C in its observation history [4].

While some reports noted a three-day spell of extreme heat, other data suggests the region may have faced up to 14 consecutive days of such conditions [1, 2].
Heat-stroke alerts currently extend from Okinawa to Niigata [5]. The alerts include 10 prefectures and the Ogasawara Islands, the first time in 10 days that more than 10 regions have been under such warnings [5].
