The Ugu District Municipality and Coolsounds Trading have organized a three-day [1] Ugu Jazz Festival at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre.

The event is designed to place the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast in the tourism spotlight. By attracting visitors to the region, organizers said they intend to boost local businesses and stimulate the regional economy.

Led by Siyabonga Msomi, the partnership between the municipality and Coolsounds Trading focuses on a diverse program of events. The festival features headline musical acts and comedians, as well as a Gala Dinner and a Worship Experience [1, 2].

This iteration follows a successful relaunch of the festival in 2025 [2]. The organizers said in May 2026 that the upcoming event would prepare the region for the three-day [1] influx of visitors.

The Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre serves as the primary venue for the festivities. This centralization allows the municipality to manage the impact of the crowds while ensuring that the cultural offerings, ranging from jazz to spiritual music, remain accessible to the public [1, 2].

The event is designed to place the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast in the tourism spotlight.

The Ugu Jazz Festival represents a strategic use of cultural tourism to drive economic development in the KwaZulu-Natal region. By diversifying the program with comedy and gala events, the municipality is attempting to broaden the event's appeal beyond jazz enthusiasts to maximize the financial benefit for local vendors and hospitality services.
