Actor Abhay Verma said his role in the Netflix series "Operation Safed Sagar" allows him to break free from artistic type-casting.
Verma's transition into a historical military drama marks a shift in his career trajectory. By moving away from the roles that first defined his public image, he seeks to establish a broader range as a performer in the Indian entertainment industry.
The series focuses on the Indian Air Force’s contributions during the Kargil War of 1999 [2]. Verma said the project was a once-in-a-lifetime story and a huge responsibility to portray the IAF’s role in the conflict.
During promotional events in Mumbai, Verma spoke about the importance of versatility. He said that if an artist is confined to one form, he does not think he can truly be an actor.
Verma worked alongside a cast that includes Jimmy Shergill and Siddharth [1]. While some reports list Dia Mirza as a co-star [1], other accounts mention Barun Sobti in the ensemble. Regarding his experienced colleagues, Verma said he never felt he was working with his idols.
The production premiered on Netflix on Aug. 7, 2024 [1]. The project aims to highlight the strategic importance of aerial combat in the high-altitude terrain of the Kargil region during the late 20th century.
