Musician Necko Vidal discussed the return of original vocalist Amaia Montero to La Oreja de Van Gogh on the Spanish television program Zapeando.
The reunion marks a significant shift for the group, as Montero was the voice that defined the band's early success before her departure nearly two decades ago.
Appearing on La Sexta on May 20, Vidal analyzed the dynamics of the comeback. He described Montero's decision to return as "valiente" — or brave — and said the move has been very good [1]. Vidal said that because Montero had not performed with the group for a long time, there was a need for a new "rodaje," referring to the recording and production process required to synchronize the members again [1].
Montero had been absent from the band for 18 years [2]. Despite the long hiatus, the reunion has drawn significant crowds. A concert at the Bizkaia Arena saw 15,000 fans in attendance [3]. However, the return has not been without internal pressure. In an interview with Antena 3 on May 11, Montero said, "Tenía mucha presión" [4].
The band announced the reunion tour on Oct. 17, 2025 [5]. The tour consists of 16 stops [5]. While some reports indicated the tour would begin in May 2025 [5], other records place key performances in May 2026 [3].
A spokesperson for the band said, "We are thrilled to welcome Amaia back" [2].
“"Ha sido muy buena, valiente"”
The return of Amaia Montero represents a high-stakes attempt to recapture the commercial peak of La Oreja de Van Gogh. By acknowledging the need for a new production phase and the immense pressure on the vocalist, the band is signaling that the reunion is a professional reconstruction rather than a simple nostalgic gesture.
