Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) defence project in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh.
The initiative aims to strengthen India's defence self-reliance while establishing the Rayalaseema region as a strategic aerospace hub. By attracting high-tech military manufacturing, the state intends to stimulate regional economic growth and technical expertise.
Naidu said the AMCA defence project is a testimony to the state's speed of doing business. He said the project received clearance in 36 days [1]. This rapid approval process is intended to signal to global and domestic investors that the state can execute large-scale industrial projects without bureaucratic delay.
The financial scale of the project is significant. While some reports estimate the cost at Rs 16,000 crore [4], other records place the figure at ₹15,803 crore [2]. This investment will fund the necessary infrastructure to support the development of the advanced combat aircraft.
Beyond the military application, the project is expected to have a substantial impact on the local labor market. The government projects the creation of 7,500 jobs [2] as the facility becomes operational.
The project is situated in the Rayalaseema region, where the government is focusing on industrial diversification. The AMCA infrastructure will serve as a cornerstone for further aerospace development in the area, linking local industry with national security goals.
