Anthropic has launched Indian rupee-denominated subscription pricing for its Claude AI assistant to better serve users in India.
This move signals the company's intent to scale its user base in a region that has become a critical hub for AI adoption. By removing the friction of currency conversion and providing localized pricing, Anthropic aims to capture a larger share of the professional and enterprise market in South Asia.
India is currently the second-largest market globally for Anthropic, trailing only the U.S. [1]. The new pricing structure introduces several tiers tailored to different user needs.
For individual power users, the Claude Pro annual plan is priced between ₹1,999 [2] and ₹2,000 [1] per month. This brings the total annual cost to approximately ₹24,000 [2].
Anthropic also introduced higher-tier options for more demanding workloads. The Claude Max plan starts at ₹11,999 per month [1]. For organizations, the Claude Team plan is available at a rate of ₹2,399 per seat per month [1].
These localized rates allow the company to compete more effectively against other large language model providers who have adopted similar regional pricing strategies. The shift reflects a broader trend of U.S.-based AI firms treating India as a primary growth engine rather than a secondary market.
“India is currently the second-largest market globally for Anthropic, trailing only the U.S.”
The introduction of rupee-denominated pricing indicates that Anthropic is transitioning from a general global release strategy to a targeted regional approach. By formalizing its presence in India—its second-largest market—the company is acknowledging that price sensitivity and payment localization are primary barriers to enterprise adoption in the region. This move likely precedes further localization efforts, such as deeper language support or regional data residency options, to compete with other AI giants.
