Anthropic has doubled usage limits for its Claude Code tool following a new compute partnership with SpaceX announced Wednesday [1], [2].
The agreement allows Anthropic to scale its AI capabilities rapidly by leveraging massive hardware reserves. This move addresses the compute bottlenecks that often limit the performance and availability of large language models for power users.
CEO Dario Amodei said the deal during the Code with Claude developer conference in San Francisco [2]. Under the terms of the agreement, Anthropic gained access to the entire compute capacity of SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center located in Memphis, Tennessee [1], [4]. This infrastructure provides the company with more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs [3].
These additional resources are being used to immediately boost capacity for subscribers on Pro and Max plans [1], [5]. Specifically, the five-hour rate limits for Claude Code have been increased by two times [2]. The company said the deal also expands general API capacity for Claude models to support higher demand from developers [1], [5].
The partnership marks a significant shift in how AI labs secure the hardware necessary for training and inference. By partnering with SpaceX, Anthropic is diversifying its infrastructure dependencies away from traditional cloud providers, a move that ensures more consistent uptime and higher throughput for its coding tools.
Anthropic is now positioning Claude Code as a more robust tool for professional software engineering by removing the restrictive caps that previously hindered long-session workflows [1], [2].
“Anthropic has doubled usage limits for its Claude Code tool following a new compute partnership with SpaceX.”
This partnership signals a growing trend of AI companies forming strategic alliances with non-traditional infrastructure providers to bypass the scarcity of GPU clusters. By securing a dedicated data center, Anthropic reduces its reliance on shared public cloud environments, potentially giving it a competitive edge in processing speed and model reliability for high-end developer tools.
