Samsung and Apple have reached an agreement for Apple to exclusively source Samsung's new OBLYX OLED panels for foldable iPhone displays.
This partnership signals a strategic shift in the foldable market, as Apple secures a dedicated supply chain to ensure hardware consistency for its anticipated entry into the foldable phone segment. It also reinforces Samsung's dominance in the premium display sector during a period of intense competition.
Samsung Display recently introduced OBLYX as its first OLED brand specifically designed for gaming laptops, according to a report from Digital Trends. The company is targeting the rapidly growing demand for high-end gaming displays, with a particular focus on the Chinese market.
While the OBLYX brand targets the laptop sector, the agreement with Apple focuses on the mobile experience. The Elec said Apple will not use foldable panels from other display suppliers as part of the agreement.
This exclusivity arrangement is set to last for three years [1]. The deal ensures that Apple's foldable hardware will rely on Samsung's specific OLED technology throughout the initial rollout and refinement of the product line.
Samsung is positioning these panels to meet the rigorous demands of both high-performance gaming and the structural stresses of foldable devices. The move allows Samsung to diversify its revenue streams by serving both the enthusiast gaming community and the mass-market consumer electronics sector through Apple.

By locking in a three-year exclusive deal, Apple mitigates the risk of supply chain volatility for its first foldable device. This creates a symbiotic relationship where Apple gains a guaranteed source of cutting-edge hardware, while Samsung secures a massive, long-term buyer for its OBLYX technology, effectively blocking competitors from accessing the same specific panel iterations during the contract period.
