The village of Arnac-Pompadour in the Corrèze department of France opened a new casino in early May 2026.

The project represents a strategic effort by local leadership to revitalize a rural area. By introducing a gaming venue, the municipal council aims to stimulate tourism and increase economic activity within the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

The initiative was led by Mayor Alain Tisseuil and the municipal council. The project took about 10 years to move from conception to completion [2]. This long-term investment was designed to bring new visitors to a village with a population of only 1,100 inhabitants [1].

Local officials faced skepticism during the planning stages of the development. Tisseuil said that few people believed the project would happen at the start, but the village succeeded in its goal.

"Few people believed in it at the beginning and yet, we did it," Tisseuil said.

The casino is now operational as a centerpiece for the village's growth strategy. The administration hopes the facility will serve as an anchor for further commercial development, and provide a sustainable source of revenue for the small community.

The opening of a casino in a village of only 1,100 people is an unconventional economic development strategy for rural France. While most gaming licenses are concentrated in urban centers or established tourist hubs, Arnac-Pompadour is attempting to create a destination-based economy to reverse rural decline.
