Bajaj Auto Ltd reported total sales of 461,257 units [1] in May 2026, marking a 20% increase [2] year-on-year.
These figures highlight a diverging trend in the Indian automotive sector, where strong export demand is sustaining some manufacturers while others struggle to meet market expectations.
The company's performance was driven by a combination of steady domestic demand and continued momentum in exports. Of the total units sold, two-wheeler sales accounted for 393,204 units [3], while commercial-vehicle sales reached 68,053 units [4].
Market analysts said whether the results exceeded expectations. Some reports indicated the sales beat estimates, while other data suggested the figures were largely in line with projections.
Other manufacturers also released data on Monday. Mahindra & Mahindra saw a 20% jump [5] in sales for the same period. Escorts Kubota was among the other major automakers releasing data during the window.
In contrast to the growth seen by Bajaj Auto, Hyundai Motor India reported sales that fell below estimates. The company's overall performance was dragged down by weaker export performance, which offset domestic activity.
“Bajaj Auto total sales in May 2026 reached 461,257 units”
The May 2026 data suggests that the Indian automotive market is increasingly sensitive to global trade dynamics. While domestic demand remains a baseline, the gap between Bajaj Auto's growth and Hyundai's shortfall underscores that export strength is currently the primary differentiator for manufacturers attempting to exceed analyst estimates.
