Bank of Baroda launched three [1] new features on its bob इ Pay UPI payments app this week to improve user security and convenience.
These updates integrate advanced authentication methods and hardware connectivity into the mobile payment ecosystem. By diversifying how users verify their identity and initiate transactions, the bank aims to reduce friction in digital payments while strengthening protection against unauthorized access.
One of the primary additions is the integration of mobile OS-native biometric authentication [2]. This allows users to leverage the built-in security features of their smartphones, such as fingerprint scanners or native face recognition, to authorize transactions more quickly.
Additionally, the bank introduced UIDAI-based face authentication [3]. This specific feature is designed for the management of UPI PINs, allowing users to set or reset their security codes using the official Aadhaar-linked facial recognition system.
Beyond authentication, Bank of Baroda has enabled Internet of Things (IoT)-based payments [2]. This capability allows the app to interact with connected devices, expanding the utility of the UPI framework beyond traditional smartphone-to-merchant interactions.
The updates were announced Wednesday [2] and are part of a broader push to modernize the banking experience in India. The bank said the new tools are intended to make the bob इ Pay app more secure and user-friendly [3].

The integration of UIDAI facial recognition and IoT capabilities signals a shift toward a 'passwordless' financial ecosystem in India. By tying payment security to national biometric identity databases and expanding the hardware that can trigger a payment, Bank of Baroda is reducing the reliance on manual PIN entries, which are often vulnerable to social engineering and phishing.
