BJP workers in Cooch Behar celebrated with bulldozers today as early vote counts showed the party leading the TMC in West Bengal.
The celebrations signal a potential shift in power within the state, where the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has long maintained a strong grip on the Legislative Assembly.
Early results from the vote-counting phase indicate the BJP has secured 193 seats [1], while the TMC trails with 95 seats [2]. In the Cooch Behar district, local party cadres used bulldozers adorned with party flags to mark the progress of the count.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi (BJP) previously addressed the political climate in the region. "The party will be held accountable for its sins and will be driven out of the state after May 4," Modi said.
The display of heavy machinery during celebrations has become a recurring motif in recent BJP political rallies and victories across various Indian states. In Cooch Behar, these displays coincided with the early data suggesting a significant lead over the party led by Mamata Banerjee (TMC).
Supporters gathered in the streets as the numbers emerged, viewing the early tally as a mandate for change. The counting process remains ongoing, but the initial gap between the two primary contenders is substantial, a margin that has sparked widespread festivities among the BJP rank and file.

The use of bulldozers in celebrations reflects a symbolic alignment with the BJP's broader administrative strategy of 'bulldozer justice' seen in other states. If these early numbers hold, it represents a major electoral breakthrough for the BJP in West Bengal, challenging the TMC's dominance and altering the political landscape of eastern India.
