BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said Thursday he questioned how Rahul Gandhi funded numerous overseas trips that allegedly cost more than his declared income.
The allegations target the financial transparency of the Congress leader, suggesting a significant gap between his reported earnings and his spending on international travel.
Patra said that Gandhi made 54 foreign trips over a period of 22 years [3, 4]. The BJP spokesperson said that these travels cost approximately Rs 60 crore [2]. This figure stands in contrast to the income Gandhi declared over a decade, which Patra said was Rs 11 crore [1].
Speaking in New Delhi, Patra said he demanded that Gandhi disclose the specific source of the funds used to finance these trips. The BJP is seeking clarity on whether the travel was funded through personal means, party resources, or other external sources.
The dispute centers on the discrepancy between the estimated Rs 60 crore travel expenditure and the Rs 11 crore in declared income [1, 2]. Patra said the public deserves to know how these trips were possible given the reported financial standing of the Congress leader.
Rahul Gandhi has not yet provided a public response to these specific numerical claims regarding his travel costs and income. The BJP continues to call for a full disclosure of the funding mechanisms used for the 54 trips [3].
“Rahul Gandhi's declared income over a decade was Rs 11 crore.”
This confrontation highlights the ongoing political strategy of the BJP to challenge the financial credibility of the Congress leadership. By focusing on the disparity between declared assets and lifestyle expenditures, the ruling party aims to frame the opposition leader as lacking transparency, potentially influencing public perception of his integrity ahead of future electoral cycles.
