Sambit Patra of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Rahul Gandhi spent at least Rs 60 crore on foreign travel [2].
The allegation targets the funding sources of Gandhi's international travel, suggesting a discrepancy between his expenditures and his officially declared financial earnings.
Patra said Gandhi has taken 54 foreign trips over a period of 22 years [1]. These travels include a recent visit to Oman. According to Patra, the minimum expenditure for these trips reached Rs 60 crore [2].
The BJP representative compared this spending to Gandhi's financial disclosures. Patra said Gandhi's declared income for the period between 2013 and 2024 was Rs 11 crore [1].
Patra questioned the funding trail of the trips, suggesting the travel was financed through opaque sources because the costs far exceed the declared income [2]. The BJP is calling for transparency regarding how these trips were funded over the last two decades.
“Rahul Gandhi spent a minimum of Rs 60 crore on 54 foreign trips over 22 years”
This dispute highlights the ongoing political friction between the BJP and the Indian National Congress, focusing on financial transparency and the scrutiny of political leaders' personal assets. By contrasting declared income with alleged travel costs, the BJP is attempting to frame the issue as one of unaccounted wealth or illicit funding.
