Empresa Metro de Bogotá (EMB) presented a project to extend the first line of the Bogota Metro by adding three new stations [1].
This expansion is designed to connect the metro line with the TransMilenio system and the RegioTram del Norte. By extending the reach of the rail network, the city aims to improve urban mobility and reduce transit times for commuters.
The extension will move the current layout from Calle 72 to Calle 100 [1]. The three new stations will be located at Calle 84, Calle 92, and Calle 102 [1]. This addition increases the total number of stops on the line from 16 to 19 [1].
Public participation has been a central part of the rollout. During April 2026, the city held a public hearing and a voting process to determine the names of the stations [2, 3]. While 13 of the original 16 stations already have official names, the process focused on selecting the remaining titles [2, 3].
Construction progress on the project remains significant. According to reports from El Tiempo, the project reached 73.75% execution as of Feb. 28, 2026 [2]. Other reports from Semana said the execution is nearly 75% [4].
The city expects the system to begin commercial operations in March 2028 [5].

The extension of the First Line represents a strategic shift to create a multimodal transport hub in Bogota. By linking the metro with RegioTram and TransMilenio, the city is attempting to solve the 'last mile' problem, ensuring that high-capacity rail is not an isolated system but a backbone for existing bus and light-rail networks.
